“Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II #2, Rhododendron, North Carolina” (c) 2021 Stu Jenks, 60 inches tall.
Price: Not For Sale. All pieces hang off the wall. To be delivered to Reverend Barber, once we all get vaccinated and things begin to quiet down a bit.
I saw Rev. Barber preach social justice and income equality for us poor and low wealth folk a couple of New Year’s Eve ago.
I’ve only been around true holy men a couple times in my life. He is one. A man, yes, but a holy man truly.
That night, I wept in his presence, listening to his words. He is the Martin Luther King Jr. of our time. One of the leaders of The Poor People’s Campaign, Rev. Barber is making a difference; in large ways, fighting against voter suppression, for health care equality and for a living wage for all, and in small ways, by touching my heart that night and the hearts of all who hear him preach.
A few weeks ago I thought, "Rev. Barber needs his own real live walking stick. Something strong that he can lean on, to help with that fused spine of his. I need to make a #3 stick along with the other two." I finished it last week, made from native North Carolina Mountain Laurel wood. After COVID wanes, I'll deliver it to him.
If you can't tell, I really love the man.
