"Jesus & Stu In Snowy Holland" (c) 2010 Jeff Smith
A very happy Winter Solstice to you all, from Stu & Jesus.
This portrait of Christ is from Jeff's studio. It's one of my favorite pictures of The Right Hand of God. I don't believe in the Risen Christ, and I believe they screwed up the faith, starting with the Nicene Convention and continuing through today's Born Again Prosperity Theology (God wants you to be wealthy, at the expense of others? I don't think so.), but I do try and practice the two core tenats of what I see as the Christian Faith: Love All People and Help The Poor.
And I truly love this painting. I'm not being funny. Ok. A little irony perhaps. But I do see Christ as a brooding, spiritual yet hopeful Jew who saw poverty and hopelessness and tried to bring the idea of a Loving God to his time, to help solves some of those problems.
"The kingdom of God resides in you," Jesus repeatedly said in the Gospel of Thomas. In you. In y'all.
