"Immigrant Waterhole Flag, Avra Valley, Arizona" (c) 2010 Stu Jenks
The vast majority of immigrants crossing our Arizona deserts (minus a few drug mules and even fewer banditos who rob the immigrants) walk to Phoenix or Tucson to make some money. They then send most of those dollars home, so their families don't starve. Truly. Don't be angry at them. Pray for them instead, this Holiday season and throughout the year.
And if you hate these Mexicans, and you call yourself a Christian, stop calling yourself one. What would Jesus do? Not hate poor people walking across a arid wasteland.
But if you must be mad, be angry at the Mexican Government for discouraging middle income growth and for being so corrupt, or at the United States Government for cosigning this crap, not at the poor immigrants, working in our fields, cleaning our hotel rooms or washing dishes in our restaurants. They are simply doing what you yourself would do.
They are trying to keep their families alive.
Bottom line: This is the time of year to give a little something to the Poor. And I just feel angry that the richest country in the world often treats poor people of color so badly. Hell, it now appears that we don't even like white poor people. Anyway, it's time to give a little to the poor, even if it's just a smile and a kind word. Ok. A crisp twenty is even better.
Beautiful!!
