"Danica Patrick Kissing Her Husband Before The Race, Phoenix International Raceway, Arizona" (c) 2012 Stu Jenks
Quote of the day at yesterday's Basha's 200 in Phoenix, Arizona:
The 43 Nationwide drivers parade by us, roaring their engines on the warmup lap before they drop the green flag. The intoxication smell of race fuel rises to my nostrils. My nose flares with delight. I motion with my hands, wafting the blessed fumes into me. I close my eyes in ecstasy. The guy next to me says, "Do you like that smell?"
I smile.
"I love that smell," I say.
He smiles back.
"That smell is better than an barbeque I've ever smelled," he says "Ever."
I laugh.
Yes ,it is.
Danica drove OK. 22nd I think. She learning NASCAR. Like all Formula One and Indy Car drivers who move over to NASCAR, it'll take her a couple years to learn how to drive the perpetually-squirrelly autos that are Sprint Cup and Nationwide cars.
And it was sweet, so sweet, to see her husband kiss her, as she went off to work.
Long may you run, Danica.
